Us The Duo to continue releasing music despite split

by Joanna Deala

FOLK-POP duo Us The Duo, composed of real-life couple Michael and Carissa Alvarado, revealed the real score between them and said they have gone their separate ways.

The duo, who had been together for 12 years, confirmed the split in a statement posted on their social media pages on Thursday, March 28.

“The two of us are no longer married, but we still have so much love for each other, and most importantly, for our daughter Xyla,” they said.

Michael, an American, and Carissa, a Filipino-American, said they have been living separately “for quite some time now” and that they are co-parenting their daughter, Xyla, who was born shortly after their “America’s Got Talent” stint.

“Xyla has also transitioned wonderfully into this new normal and is still her happy and joyful self!” the former couple said.

Despite their breakup, the two assured their fans that they would continue to create and share their music. In fact, they have “plenty of exciting things” in store for their listeners, including never-heard-before singles, remixes of past Us The Duo favorites, top hits medleys, and an acoustic Christmas release this year.

“We know our music means so much to you all, as it does to us. Many of you have walked down the aisle to our music… some of you even have a tattoo of Us The Duo (you’re amazing)!” they said.

“The message, the feelings and the love in our past music will always be our truth for that time in our lives and we hope you’ll continue to cherish the music and your memories attached to it for eternity,” they added.

The duo said they will be giving updates on their careers and co-parenting life on their respective social media accounts. They also expressed gratitude to their fans.

“Thank you for all your support over the past 12 years. We love you all so much,” they said.

About Us The Duo

Michael and Carissa tied the knot in 2012 and welcomed their child in 2018.

Us The Duo rose in popularity when they started uploading their seconds-long song covers on the now-defunct video app Vine, where they gained millions of followers. This eventually led them to secure a record deal with Republic Records and became the first Vine artists to be signed to a major label.

They have released multiple albums since 2012, with “One Day at a Time” being the latest one launched in 2023. It consisted of 10 songs.

The duo also embarked on world tours, performing with other well-known musical acts like Pentatonix and Oprah Winfrey.

They last performed in the Philippines in 2015 where they promoted their second album “No Matter Where You Are.”

In 2021, the folk-pop duo released their official cover of “Doors,” the first international single of Filipino folk-pop band Ben&Ben. The cover earned praise from the OPM band who admitted to being a fan of Us The Duo.
