Three-day transport strike next week

THE transport group Pagkakaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) announced their  three-day nationwide strike next week starting April 29 to May 1.

The said protest is in line with the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program and consolidation of jeepney franchises which is set on April 30.

According to PISTON deputy secretary general Ruben Baylon, the transport strike, starting April 29, will culminate on May 1.

He said that they expect their members to join their Labor Day protest actions.

“Ito ay kinakailangan nating gawin upang ipaglaban natin ang ating mga kabuhayan sa sektor ng transportasyon,” Baylon said.

“Ang a-uno [ng Mayo], sabi nila, huhulihin na raw ang mga jeep. Karapatan ng mamamayang Pilipino na maglingkod sa sambayanan. Kung kaya, kahit na matapos ang deadline, hindi titigil sa pamamasada ang mga drayber at operator,” Baylon also said.

He said that the “Mass up” areas in Metro Manila for the transport protest include Alabang, Baclaran, Sucat, Taft Avenue, Agoncillo, Monumento, Novaliches, Litex, Anonas, Katipunan, and Philcoa.
