Taylor Swift accepts Innovator award, sweeps trophies at iHeartRadio Music Awards

by Joyce Remo

THAT’S a real f*cking legacy, Queen Taylor Swift!

The Music Industry, also known as Taylor Swift, recently accepted the Innovators Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Tuesday, March 28 (Philippine time), and reminded fans that allowing yourself to fail is a key to success.

The multi-awarded singer-songwriter also swept four trophies out of the seven nods she received from the award-giving body. These recognitions include song of the year and best lyrics for Anti-Hero, TikTok bop of the year for Bejeweled, favorite use of a sample for Question…? that sampled her song Out of The Woods, and pop album of the year for her tenth studio album Midnights.

In her acceptance speech for the innovator award, the country-turned-pop singer thanked the Swifties for supporting her throughout her music career. She also reminded fans that a key to success is giving yourself permission to fail.

“I’m very privileged because my fans have backed me up. Like switching genres or re-recording all of my old music,” the 12-time Grammy winner said.

Swift also shared among the iHeartRadio audience that she never thought of doing whatever she is bound to do today but she makes sure she’s trying to make the right choices for herself even if nobody else has done it before.

“I never, a single time, woke up in the morning and thought, you know, what I’m going to do today,” Swift said. “[…] But what I did do was try to make the right decision for me at the time whether or not it had ever been successfully done before.”

The multi-awarded New York-based music icon also gave the audience a tip to success — that is to not look for a precedent but set a new one.

“I think maybe that might be the key because oftentimes, in any industry people are looking for a precedent or, you know, data that shows this idea is a good one or a feasible one. People want an example of something working before but I think the coolest ideas or moves or choices are the new ones, the ones that set a new precedent,” the Anti-Hero hitmaker said.

The 33-year-old singer also told fans and spectators a piece of advice — to allow themselves the permission to fail.

“I really, really want everyone to know, especially young people, that the hundreds or thousands of dumb ideas that I’ve had are what led me to my good ideas,” she said. “You have to give yourself permission to fail.”

While Swift noted that it is surely embarrassing to witness yourself fail, she ensures to still allow herself to do so as this is what led her into becoming the person she is today.

“So go easy on yourselves and just make the right choices that feel right for you and someday someone might think that you’ve been innovative,” Swift added.

As of the moment, Swift is holding her wildly anticipated The Eras World Tour, starting off with the United States leg.
