Rainy Christmas Eve in several areas

by Leila Salaverria

WHERE will you spend your noche buena?

If your are in the Bicol region, Visayas, Palawan, and Dinagat Islands, chances are you will have a rainy Christmas Eve.

The state weather bureau said the shear line, or the convergence of the cold northeasterly and warm easterly winds that forms rain clouds, will bring cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms in these areas.

It also issued an advisory saying that the shear line will bring heavy to intense rains with at times torrential rains over Eastern Samar, and moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over the rest of Eastern Visayas.

“Flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” it said.

It called on the public and disaster risk reduction management offices to take measures to protect life and property.

Weather forecaster Daniel James Villamil said significant rainfall, or moderate to heavy rains, have been recorded in Eastern Visayas in the past 24 hours.

The rains are may continue in the next two to three days, said Villamil.

Northeast monsoon

On the other hand, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will just experience light rains.

The rest of Mindanao may have localized thunderstorms that could occur in the afternoon and evening. There is the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
