PBA summons Abueva-Tautuaa for hallway verbal altercation

by Bryan Gadingan

MAGNOLIA’S Calvin Abueva appears to be in deep trouble anew, as the PBA is already gathering more information about the verbal spat that occurred during Game Two of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals between San Miguel and Magnolia.

On Monday, February 5, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial stated that the league will review footage and speak with witnesses who were present when Abueva and Mo Tautuaa’s wife, Aida, got into a shouting altercation near the Mall of Asia Arena exit.

In addition, Abueva had a verbal altercation with San Miguel Beer coach Jorge Gallent during the fourth quarter.

As he approached the Magnolia bench, he was seen making a gesture that appeared to ridicule Gallent’s eye handicap, which triggered different reactions from basketball fans, including former commissioner Noli Eala.

Marcial claimed that investigations have already begun and that he is in communication with big man Tautuaa and the San Miguel Beermen’s camp. “Kausap ko yung San Miguel management kagabi pati si Mo,” he remarked.

“Sinabi ko na mag ga-gather muna ako ng mga videos, pati yung mga tao na nakakita kung anong nangyari, after nun, isa-submit ko sa technical group.”

“Tapos kailangan ko makausap yung dalawang players,” he explained, alluding to the aforementioned players.

Furthermore, Marcial mentioned the potential of preventing both of their wives from watching and attending the games at the locations.

“Pwede rin, pwede rin yon. Madaming pwedeng mangyari, kung gaano kalaki yung gravity ng ginawa nila,” he continued, noting that there are still several penalties options available.

When asked when the investigation’s findings would be released, Marcial gave an uncertain answer, especially given that it could effect the third game of the Finals on Wednesday.

“Kakausapin ko muna silang dalawa. Kailangan ko pang (makausap) yung mga asawa nila,” he explained that their current aim is to contact all persons involved and gather the relevant proof.

“Hindi pa man hanggang Wednesday, pero for sure kakausapin ko muna yung dalawa,” he went on to say.

Meanwhile, the basketball action will return on Wednesday, February 7, with the Commissioner’s Cup Game 3 Finals. SMB currently leads the series 2-0 against Magnolia, the top-seeded team.
