No tropical cyclone until the end of January, says Pagasa

by Leila Salaverria

MOST of Mindanao will have generally fair weather today as the low pressure area east of the island has dissipated, but the shear line and northeast monsoon will bring rains in other parts of the country.

No other low pressure area is on the horizon, and no tropical cyclones are expected in the country for the rest of the month, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

But the weather bureau is keeping watch on cloud clusters east of Mindanao that might form into low pressure areas, said weather specialist Benison Estareja.

Luzon weather

There is a high chance of rain today in Palawan, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Romblon due to the shear line, or the convergence of hot and cold winds that forms rain clouds.

The rains will be light to moderate but may be heavy at times, and residents are advised to watch out for possible flash floods and landslides.

The northeast monsoon will bring light to moderate rains in Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Quezon, Aurora, Cagayan Valley, and eastern parts of the Cordillera Autonomous Region. Flash floods and landslides are also possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of Central Luzon, the rest of CAR, and the Ilocos region will be partly cloudy to cloudy.

Other areas of Luzon including Metro Manila and other parts of Calabarzon will be cloudy with light rains at noon and in the afternoon.

Visayas

The shear line will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Aklan, Capiz, and Eastern Visayas.

The rains will not be as heavy as in the previous days, but residents in the area are still advised to watch out for possible flash floods and landslides.

Central Visayas and the rest of Western Visayas will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain showers or localized thunderstorms.

Mindanao

Large parts of Mindanao will see the sun today and enjoy fair weather conditions.

But Dinagat Islands and the Surigao provinces will be cloudy and will experience localized thunderstorms that may last for two to three hours.

There may also be localized thunderstorms in the afternoon in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao provinces.

Weekend weather in select cities

Metro Manila will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies this weekend with some light rains.

Baguio City residents and visitors will have generally fair weather conditions and chilly air. The temperature will dip to as low as 14 °C.

Legazpi City will have cloudy skies and could expect light to moderate rains on Saturday and Sunday due to the northeast monsoon.

Metro Cebu will have fair weather conditions on Saturday with isolated rain showers. On Sunday, it will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line.

Metro Davao can expect sunny weather on Saturday, but it could expect a cloudy day with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Sunday.
