New ‘Horror Queen?’ Nadine says ‘not yet’

by RepublicAsia

DESPITE the success of her movie Deleter, Nadine Lustre, who was recently chosen as the Best Actress in the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), said she can’t claim the “Horror Queen” title. Here’s why.

In a story conference for her forthcoming movie titled Nokturno, the actress said she was hesitant to get the title as she said her current movie in the making is just her second horror movie.

“Parang hindi ko pa po ma-claim ang ‘Horror Queen’ since this is [just] my second, kasi meron po akong isa pang movie na horror pero support lang po ako doon, as in sobrang bilis lang po ako doon,” the multimedia princess was quoted as saying, referring to the 2015 film Chain Mail where she appeared as a supporting character.

The 29-year old actress-singer reiterated that she isn’t ready yet to be the “Queen of Horror Movies,”but is feeling delighted for receiving various awards and recognition for Deleter, her very first horror movie where she was cast as the lead character.

Lustre further said that she is personally interested in horror, crimes, and thrillers, but explained that she does not want to be “boxed” in just a single genre.

“I don’t want to be boxed. Hopefully after Nokturno magkaroon ako ng variation sa projects…But with Nokturno, excited ako kung paano ko iti-twist ‘yung character and paano siya maiiba sa Deleter,” she said.

She also added that her character as Jamie in Nokturno is way more challenging than her previous roles in Chain Mail’and Deleter.

“Mas rural kasi ang Nokturno and ‘yung mga kabatuhan ko rito, especially with Eula Valdez…makikita niyo ‘yung interactions ng character ko with Eula, with a mom, with a brother, with a family member,” she said.

Nokturno, which will be directed by Mikhail Red, tells the story of Jamie, an overseas Filipino worker who came home to solve a supernatural ancient curse that plagues her rural Filipino family.

Nadine previously portrayed the role of Lyra who was haunted by horrors in her work as a content moderator in the suspense-thriller Deleter.

The top-grosser movie was also directed by Mikhail Red, and dominated the 48th MMFF last 2022.

Lustre has gained her popularity from her first leading film, Diary ng Panget in 2014, where she starred with her former loveteam partner James Reid. She has also starred in Never not love you, Talk back and you’re dead, This time, Ulan, Indak, and Greed.
