Mariah Carey reacts to her giant ‘snowball’ in PH

by Joanna Deala

“SONGBIRD Supreme” Mariah Carey wowed at the iconic globe of a Philippine mall that turned into a Carey-themed giant Christmas snowball.

On X (formerly Twitter), record label Sony Music Philippines shared a 45-second video of SM Mall of Asia’s globe that featured the American singer-songwriter being defrosted from a huge block of ice.

“The Queen Mariah Carey has officially defrosted from the giant Christmas snowball in the Philippines and Southeast Asia,” said Sony Music Philippines.

It shows the clip from an Instagram post the Grammy award-winning singer posted on November 1, where she was seen donning a Santa jumpsuit and breaking the ice by belting out the words, “It’s time.”

Her holiday hit song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” played in the video. The record label also shared a link to a playlist containing hundreds of Christmas songs including Carey’s holiday hit song.

The singer saw her giant Christmas snowball in the country and said, “Wow!!!” along with three party-popper emojis.

The American singer-songwriter took note of the Philippines’ long celebration of the Yuletide season, which begins as soon as the Ber months kick off.

In September, she mentioned her “Filipino lambs” on X as she reacted to a September 3 post from a fan page about “All I Want For Christmas Is You” raking in over 316,000 streams on Spotify.

The post said that it was a 75 percent increase from the record on the same day in 2022.

Carey said, “Not yet!!!! I’ll allow it for my Filipino lambs though! (I don’t make the rules!)”

First released in 1994, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was co-written and produced by Carey and Walter Afanasieff.

Billboard reported on Monday, December 18, that the single has returned to the top spot of its Hot 100.

Last week, Carey visited the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C to receive a framed certificate of the induction of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in the National Recording Registry in 2023.
