SCOTTISH singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi will be holding a show in Manila, on Thursday July 27. His concert, which is part of his “Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent” tour, will be held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

If you’re a new fan or just want a refresher, here are some of his tracks you might want to listen to before singing along and crying to his songs during the concert.

Someone You Loved

This is a heartbreaking song about longing for the person you loved, whether it be in a romantic, platonic, or familial way.

The lyrics “Now, the day bleeds into nightfall and you’re not here to get me through it all, I let my guard down, And then you pulled the rug, I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved” speak of how much you’re missing that person even if they are no longer there to stay.

Since the feeling and attachment are strong, there is that strong yearning for this person.

Capaldi revealed at The BRIT Awards 2020 that the song was written for his grandmother who died a few years back.

Before You Go

This is another emotional and heartbreaking song about death. This time, it is written from the aftermath of a loved one’s suicide.

The lyrics “Was there something I could have done to make it all stop hurting? If only I’d have known you had a storm to weather” are like a monologue asking, “what could I have done to save you?”

Because when we love someone, we think that we can save them from their pain, But we don’t really know what they are going through.

In an interview with Genius, Lewis Capaldi revealed that he wrote this song after his aunt took her own life.

Wish You the Best

This song is about loving someone unconditionally, even if that person cannot return the same sentiment because they love someone else more than you.

Just like Capaldi’s previous songs, this can also be applied to non-romantic relationships.

Leaving My Love Behind

This song talks about confusion. Is the relationship still working? Is the relationship ending? Do we have to keep on fighting?

The lyrics “Love don’t come easy to us, And it’s killing me to hang on” seem to beg the question how long should you keep holding on when the relationship is already falling apart.

The chorus, which goes “You gotta give me something, I swear that I won’t try to change your mind, If you’re leaving my love behind, Baby, say the word and let me go,” is like begging someone to tell you to just end the relationship to avoid getting hurt any longer.

Grace

This song is about wanting a commitment from a person you want and value.

The opening lines “I’m not ready to be just another of your mistakes” make it clear that you don’t want to just be someone’s pastime.

The chorus, which goes  “I was only just a breath removed from going to waste, ‘till I found salvation in the form of your grace,” also speaks about feeling saved by this new relationship.
