WrestleMania 40 weekend, ends on an epic note

by Bryan Gadingan

THE epic WWE WrestleMania 40 concluded with a bang as Cody Rhodes finished his story and ended the historic reign of former champion Roman Reigns at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship by pinning Roman Reigns after reigning as champion for 1,316 days, the longest in a modern-era record.

The fight was full of twists and turns, with plenty of callbacks to the past and both guys putting out all the stops, including each using the other’s hallmark moves and finishers.

Just when Rhodes appeared to have perfect control, Jimmy Uso entered the ring to assist The Tribal Chief, followed by Jey Uso, who evened the odds for both contenders.

In another event, Reigns was saved by yet another interruption as Solo Sikoa arrived just in time to save him from Rhodes. However, an unexpected equalizer arrived: The Champ John Cena evened the odds once more.

Right before Cena could escape the ring, The Rock electrified the audience by confronting his former opponent Cena, who was quickly Rock Bottomed and dropped.

Seth Rollins was next in line, but he couldn’t knock The Rock out because Reigns stopped him with a Superman punch from ringside. Then the gong rang, and the lights went out.

The Undertaker unexpectedly returned and choke-slammed The Rock. When the lights went out again, Reigns and Rhodes were left alone to finish their match.

Finally, Rhodes slammed the former champion with his iconic Cross Rhodes to dethrone Reigns as WWE Champion.

During the first night of WrestleMania 40, Rhea Ripley defeated Becky Lynch for the Women’s World Championship by pinning.
