TikTok is testing an AI chatbot called ‘Tako’ in PH

by Joyce Remo

TikTok in Thursday announced that they are experimenting with an AI chatbot tool called Tako among select Filipino users in the Philippines.

Tako, the platform said, will help with TikTok’s search and discovery features.

“Tako is powered by a third-party chat assistant and is designed to help make it easier to discover entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok,” the social media site wrote in a tweet.

According to product intelligence solution firm Watchful.ai, the ghost-like Tako logo is positioned on the right side of the video screen, just above other icons in the app such as the user profile and like button.

The strategic placement of the Tako icon will encourage users to converse with the chatbot. Tako can also suggest popular questions asked that are relevant to the video being shown.

The AI tool aims to help TikTok users achieve a better viewing experience by providing content recommendations based on the content they consume and creators they subscribe to.

“By engaging in direct dialogue with each user, Tako can recommend the most relevant content to watch or creators to follow, based on the videos watched and the questions asked,” Watchful.ai wrote in a blog.

It will also aim to allow users to “seamlessly navigate” through the platform by responding to user queries, said Watchful.ai.

Watchful.ai said Tako’s text-based query feature will help TikTok in further developing its algorithm by providing additional information from the valuable data collected from the users.

While TikTok is yet to disclose further details and plans about the said AI tool, it said it will be waiting for user’s feedback.
