Taylor Lautner wants to go back in time to defend Taylor Swift from Kanye

by Joyce Remo

Lautner shared his thoughts amid the expected release of the re-recording of Taylor Swift’s third studio album, Speak Now, which features a song said to be inspired by him.

Fans believe that Swift’s hit song Back To December from the album is about the actor.

During one episode of Lautner’s podcast, which he shares with his wife Taylor Dome, the Twilight star was asked, “If you could go back to one moment in your life, what would it be and what would you say to yourself?”

According to Lautner, he would probably travel back to the 2009 VMA when he was presenting Swift’s award.

“Probably the 2009 VMAs when I presented the awards to Taylor and was unaware that the Kanye was not a skit,” he said.

What happened?

During the incident, Swift won the Best Video award. But West suddenly interrupted her thank you speech and said that Beyoncé was more deserving of the award than the country singer.

This sparked the feud between Swift and West. It was amplified in 2016 due to West’s song Famous that had lyrics referencing Swift, and which he said had her approval.

Lautner recalled that during the VMAs, he couldn’t see either of West and Swift’s faces and could barely hear them because of the speakers.

“I’m just assuming that this whole thing was a practice and rehearsed skit because why else would Kanye West be jumping on the stage interrupting Taylor Swift?” he said. “It just didn’t make sense.”

Lautner only realized something bad happened when Swift turned back around and he saw her face.

“And then after he jumped off, she finished, the second she turned back around and I saw her face for the first time I was like, oh… that wasn’t good, I probably should have said something,” he added.

Lautner and Swift had a brief romantic relationship between August to December 2009. While the reason for the split was not publicized, fans speculated that it wasn’t an awful breakup after the 11-time Grammy winner said in a 2010 magazine interview that Lautner was one of her best friends.

The two also starred in the 2010 romantic comedy film Valentine’s Day, portraying the role of high school couples Willy and Felicia.
