FILIPINA talent Sophia Laforteza succeeded in earning a spot in the newest girl group “Katseye.”
Laforteza, the only Filipina who joined a reality-show competition organized by Korean entertainment agency HYBE and American record label Geffen Records, was announced to be part of the new pop group along with five other girls: Lara (USA), Yoonchae (Korea), Megan (USA), Daniella (USA) and Manon (Switzerland).
“The Debut: Dream Academy” released on X the final results of the voting poll as the show reached its finale on November 18. Combining the numbers from the early and live votes, the Filipina star scored 88.33 while maintaining her place on the top spot.
She earned the first spot in the third and final mission talent survival, later earning the votes of two of three judges after her final performance.

The 20-year-old Laforteza was called to join the group during the last episode.
She expressed her gratitude by thanking everyone who supported her in her journey. “I’ve worked so hard to be here. I appreciate everybody who has voted for me and has been supporting me since day one,” she said.
Laforteza posted on her Instagram: “My heart is so full of gratitude, love, and warmth. Thank you for helping me make my dream come true. I wish I could hug every single one of you who has been supporting me.”

HYBE is a Korean agency which manages K-pop groups such as BTS, New Jeans, and Le Ssarfim, meanwhile Geffen Records is known for handling artists such Oliva Rodrigo, Elton John, and Weezer.
HYBE and Geffen’s new girl group is set to make its debut and release their first album in 2024.
