AMERICAN singer-songwriter and actress Selena Gomez makes history as the first woman to receive 400 million followers on Instagram. The news came less than a month after the singer dethroned Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on the photo-sharing app.

Selena Gomez broke history on March 18 as the first woman to reach 400 million followers on Instagram. 

The 30-year-old singer celebrated the achievement by captioning a carousel with: “Wishing I could hug all 400 million of you.” 

Gomez has been an active Instagram user since 2013. She used the platform to interact with fans and promote her music, films, and business ventures. 

The Come & Get It hitmaker also used the app as a platform to promote mental health awareness. She is also outspoken about her personal struggles, which made her more relatable to Selenators.

Gomez also joins football players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the top three spots of the world’s highest followers on Instagram, with the two gaining 563 million and 443 million followers respectively.

The news makes Gomez a back to back record breaker on Instagram.

In February, the Only Murders in the Building star dethroned Kylie Jenner from her spot as the most followed woman on the photo-sharing app with 382 million followers. 

Jenner reportedly lost one million followers after she was accused of bullying Gomez online with her model friend and Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Baldwin.
