Arroceros Park, 5 degrees cooler than Manila Heat index

by RepublicAsia

INSIDE the ‘Last Lung of Manila’, Arroceros Park was recorded to be 5 degrees cooler than the actual Manila heat index.

According to a recent television report, the two-hectare nature park in Manila recorded 36 degrees Celsius last Tuesday, April 23, which was 5 degrees Celsius cooler than the city’s 41°C.

The park is dubbed ‘The Last Lung of Manila’ as it is the city’s last remaining nature park. It has over 60 species of trees and more than 8,000 ornamental plants that provide fresh air to the Lawton area.

The park is situated along Antonio Villegas St. in Ermita, Manila, and was established in 1993 for recreational and educational activities. It also helps to provide a breather for commuters, residents, and park visitors.

“I hope people will realize the importance of trees mother nature,” a netizen said in the comments.

Another netizen expressed his sentiments on the need for more parks to serve as a breather in the Metro.

“We need more parks like it around the big Metro!” he added.

Based on a Philippine Information Agency (PIA) report, the Manila LGU added 5,100 square meters of land to further expand the park, extending to a total land mass of 2.71 hectares.

Today, visitors will see elevated walkways, a pedestrian trail bridge, a fountain, a Koi pond, a meditation area, and a vertical garden in the nature park.

The Arroceros Nature Park is open to the public daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, and the entrance is free.
