Sandara Park dismayed by postponement of ‘AWAKE’ concert in Cebu

by Joanna Deala

K-POP superstar Sandara Park, also known as Dara, expressed disappointment at the postponement of the music festival AWAKE: A New Beginning in Cebu City, where she was supposed to perform with other K-pop idols.

The K-pop concert was initially scheduled for September 23 at City Di Mare Events Ground, but “unforeseen circumstances and unpredictable weather condition” pushed organizer MARK Entertainment and Events on September 15 to postpone the show.

Park, meanwhile, could not help but feel “sad” and “disappointed” for K-pop fans who were excited to see her and other K-pop acts perform live on stage.

“I’m so sad and sorry for my fans coz of the cebu concert. I’m also very very sad and disappointed with what happened,” she wrote in a post on X.

The former member of the famous girl group 2NE1 was supposed to share the stage with K-pop groups AB6IX, Younite, and Viviz. Korean dance crews 1MILLION and MB Crew are also on the list of performers.

“I was preparing a lot for the show. But there is always next time so pls [pray],” Park said.

“I hope you guys are ok and don’t forget I’ll always be here for my Daralings and Blackjacks,” she added, referring to her own fandom and 2NE1 fans, respectively.

Meanwhile, individuals who purchased concert tickets may now get a refund, the organizers announced.

This is Park’s second event in the country this year that didn’t go as planned.

The K-pop star was also supposed to headline the much-awaited The Super Stage By K-pop in Manila last August, but the show was canceled in July.

Special guest

Daralings and Blackjacks will still have the chance to see Park, as she will be the guest artist on the Manila leg of Bambam’s first world tour, Area 52.

Bambam is Park’s labelmate and a member of the boy group GOT7.

The concert will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on September 22.
