by Bryan Gadingan

IN light of the highly anticipated 2024 Chinese New Year festivities, the Local Governments of Manila and Quezon City have publicly approved certain temporary road closures in their respective cities.

According to a Facebook post from the Manila Public Information Office, the public was notified on Thursday of imminent road restrictions in connection with the fireworks display on Friday, February 9.

“Binondo-Intramuros Bridge will be closed from 12AM onwards to prepare for the fireworks display,” according to the announcement.

“Jones Bridge southbound lane going to Manila City Hall will be closed from 7PM onwards, while the northbound portion going to Binondo will be closed from 10PM onwards to give way to the public interested to watch the fireworks.”

The 12-minute fireworks display will commence at 10PM near Jones Bridge in honor of the Philippines’ and the world’s oldest Chinatown, which was founded in 1954 and will celebrate 430 years in 2024.

The Manila Police District said it will soon announce the additional roads that will be closed for the grand procession on Saturday in Binondo, and encouraged the public to visit its Facebook page for updates on road closure announcements and other routes.

Meanwhile, MPD encouraged motorcycle riders to park their vehicles in well-lit areas and use a disk lock or padlock to prevent motor-napping occurrences during the festival.

On the other hand, several roads and streets in Quezon City will be blocked to vehicular traffic from February 8 to 11 to accommodate the Chinese New Year celebrations, the local government stated on Wednesday.
