PVL teams heat up massive off-season rumors

by Bryan Gadingan

THE OFF-SEASON in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) couldn’t be more interesting as teams ignite major acquisition speculations one after another.

On Thursday, the Philippine volleyball community went berserk online as talk about three significant shifts in the volleyball league spread on social media.

These former Choco Mucho Flying Titans teammates will soon reconnect with Alyssa Valdez and Ella de Jesus, who were all members of Ateneo’s UAAP Season 77 championship team that won a 16-game tournament sweep.

Creamline and Choco Mucho competed in a PVL championship series for the first time just over a month ago. As a result, Valdez, De Jesus, and the rest of the Cool Smashers won their seventh league championship.

Although their first championship run was unsuccessful, De Leon and Lazaro made significant defensive contributions in the Flying Titans’ best-ever PVL conference to date.

Meanwhile, the Cool Smashers swept the conference despite the absence of Jia de Guzman and Ced Domingo. Bringing in tougher players will surely improve an already unstoppable team.

PLDT High Speed Hitters may have gone on a recruitment rampage ahead of the 2024 PVL season after signing former F2 Logistics talents Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo, who were looking for a new squad after their former club was disbanded.

Just as in Creamline, Mika Reyes and her old UAAP Season 78 Championship colleagues from the former De La Salle University Lady Spikers will reunite soon.

With the departures of Michelle Morente, Mean Mendrez and Anj Legacion, the trio will be unveiled as the newest High Speed Hitters in the coming days, with the goal of boosting their podium bid.

Ced Domingo to Akari

Meanwhile, the Akari Chargers have gained the commitment of former Finals MVP Ced Domingo, who will only formally sign with the team after her side, Nakhon Ratchasima VC, finishes its season in Thailand.

If she signs, Domingo will be a huge boost to a team that has already signed another superstar in Grethcel Soltones from Petro Gazz.

They will join a squad that includes Dindin Santiago Manabat and the brilliant Faith Nisperos and Fifi Sharma. Akari is also expected to find a replacement for their former coach, Brazilian Jorge Souza de Brito, in the near future.

Given the significance of these acquisitions, the PVL 2024 season will undoubtedly be one to look forward to for PVL fans and community members. This season will certainly offer extra difficulty to every squad, as most teams have upgraded their lineups.

So, how about you? What would your reaction be if these speculations turn out to be true? Please let us know in the comments.
