PVL opens Second All-Filipino Conference on Sunday

by Bryan Gadingan

THE Premier Volleyball League (PVL) will make its return on Sunday, October 15, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The league conducted a press conference on Wednesday, featuring volleyball players from 12 different clubs. The league assures fans that the 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference will be memorable as it brings together the best female volleyball players in the country.

“We are incredibly proud to present the biggest PVL tournament yet, featuring 12 teams,” said Ricky Palou, president of the PVL and Sports Vision.

“This season’s AIl-Filipino Conference is a testament to the league’s continuous growth and the unwavering support of our fans. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of volleyball competition in the country, and this tournament will undoubtedly deliver on that promise,” he added.

After the FIVB prohibited the league from recruiting international players, this will be the second All-Filipino Conference of the year.

There’s no better way to kick off the season than with the defending champions, Creamline Cool Smashers, taking on the Flying Titans at 7 p.m.

At 3 p.m., debutant Nxled Chameleons will face the Gerflor Defenders in the triple header. At 5 p.m., sister teams Cignal HD Spikers and PLDT High Speed Hitters will take the field.

The competition will use a single-round robin elimination before putting the top four teams against each other in a best-of-three semifinal series. The championship and bronze medal match will likewise be best-of-three.

PVL also revealed several changes to the AIl-Filipino Conference to avoid long games, such as reducing the number of coaches’ timeouts per set.

According to the official schedule, games will be held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday until December 5. Fans can also watch the games live on PVL.ph, One Sports, One Sports+, and the SMART Livestream app.
