Pope expels Pinoy priest over sexual abuse

by Kiko Cueto

A Filipino priest who has been accused of sexual abuse against minors was expelled no less by Pope Francis himself.

The Filipino priest was identified as Pio Aclon, who was dismissed by the Pope from his clerical state.

It was announced by the Diocese of Borongan in their social media page.

“He is, therefore, no longer a cleric and cannot exercise priestly ministry in the Church,” the notice said.

It was transmitted to all parish churches, chapels and chaplaincies of the diocese.

The actions taken against Aclon were not stated in the announcement though.

The now former priest served at a minor seminary in Borongan, before he was suspended from his clerical duties.

Pope Francis had likewise apologized for the said case, which is among the cases of abuse involving priests.

He also pledged a “zero tolerance” to sexual assault when it comes to those made by members of the clergy.
