by Deanna Macaranas

DISPLAYING grit, determination and loyalty to her oath of service, a Filipina nurse till the end stayed with her Israeli patient and paid for it with her life.

Nurse Angelyn Agguire was shot dead by suspected Hamas members as she chose to stay with her elderly patient.

Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, Fluer Hassan-Nahoum shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) last Wednesday.

In the post, Nahoum mentioned that Angelyn showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining on Nira’s (the elder) side during the violence.

“Despite having a chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks, Angelyn showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas. Unimaginable honor in the face of evil.”

Angelyn is one of the two Filipinos who have died during the course of Israel and Hamas conflict. Her death comes a year after the nurse went back to Israel a week after getting married.

In an interview with GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, Angelyn’s mother—Erlinda had expressed her grief at what happened to her daughter. She said in the interview that no words could explain how much pain they were in and how much they are missing their beloved daughter.

According to the outlet, the OFW was fatally shot by Hamas while staying inside the bomb shelter with her patient.

Meanwhile in Binmaley, Pangasinan—her family’s only wish is to have Angelyn’s remains home for a proper burial.

The last time they got in touch with Angelyn was on Oct 6—mentioning her worry regarding the ongoing war.

On Oct 9, Angelyn’s sister Angenica, who’s also working in Israel had confirmed her death on a Facebook post. “You are always in my heart my dearest sister Angelyn. I love you very much,” she wrote.
