Money-saving tips from your favorite celebrities

by Izel Abanilla

Celebrities earn a lot, but they save just as much.

Contrary to popular belief, not all celebrities spend money carelessly. Some celebrities actually manage their finances well.

So if you’re looking for some sound and practical financial advice, take your cue from these stars:

  1. Anne Curtis

Having been in the public eye since she was 12 years old, Anne was able to rise from a budding teen star to one of this generation’s most highly paid actresses. From her travels to her runway-ready fashion, she’s pretty much living the high life. But nope, Anne isn’t a reckless spender and, in fact, has practiced some wise philosophies on money.

During a webinar for an endorsement, Anne stressed the importance of attaining a reasonable financial quota for yourself each year.

She divides her finances into categories for tax, savings, self-imposed quotas, and discretionary spending.

  1. Heart Evangelista

The name Heart Evangelista is mostly synonymous with luxury, opulence, and unthinkable spending. Remember her P400,000 sofa or her heart-stopping P21-million Hermes BIrkin bag?

Yep, she’s adorned with all the world’s extravagance, but make no mistake, everyone’s favorite style icon is a wise money handler, and she too has adopted effective money practices.

Heart isn’t an impulsive buyer. No matter how captivating a pair of shoes, a bag, or a piece of jewelry may be, she first engages in serious self-talk before she parts with her money.

At the recent launch of a high-end residential project she endorses, Heart told the media that she first asks herself if, if ever the need arises, she will be able to sell that item for double the price, a philosophy mostly applied when purchasing real estate properties.

Her wisdom goes across everything. In clothes, she said she simply would not buy one if she wouldn’t be able to wear it a thousand times.

  1. Andrea Brillantes

Yes, Andrea Brillantes is one of today’s most bankable celebrities, but she too is a proud ‘kuripot’ (frugal).

At the age of 17, the social media superstar achieved a feat: she built a house for her family using her hard-earned money.

How was it possible?

She simply set her priorities, and while most of her contemporaries enjoyed spending, she was actively saving.

In an interview, Andrea said she rarely buys designer items. As the breadwinner of her family, she knew early on the value of money.

  1. Kris Aquino

Another icon of luxury is Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, who, even without her showbiz career, is a successful businesswoman. Not to mention the fact that she hails from the landed family of Cojuangcos, who once owned the Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac.

Kris once said that her mother, the late former President Corazon Aquino, had always reminded her to stay away from debts. Applying that philosophy, her home, her luxuries, and her properties, she said, were paid for in hard-earned cash.

  1. Sharon Cuneta

Megastar Sharon Cuneta is another celebrity we see donning bags, shoes, and clothes most people could only dream about. She also has a collection of the rarest timepieces and a home being constructed in Silang, Cavite.

In one of her videos, she gave her ten best money tips she’s learned over the years, especially in investing and saving.

For her, saving should always be a priority, and investing in businesses you don’t know anything about is doomed to fail.

The actress also discussed renting versus owning a property, the most viable businesses to try, and the difference between good and bad debt.
