BEAUTY and lifestyle content creator Michelle Dy has urged her millions of followers to buy goods from local vendors, especially those selling their wares along the streets, to support their business and their families.
“I encourage people to support their home provinces, local vendors, local businesses, to boost the livelihood within the community, lalo na sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, yong mga maliliit na vendors/businesses ang unang naaapektuhan,” Dy told republicasia on Monday.
Following her encounter with a local street vendor selling handcrafted brooms and other rattan products, Dy called on her followers to support local products.
“I’m posting this to promote these kinds of vendors. Specifically, ‘tong mga naglalakad sa kalsada,” Dy said in a now-expired Instagram story.
According to Dy, she expects that her followers will do the same and help the vendors, who find it difficult to attract consumers on the streets.
“There’s 100k of you watching my stories every day. So I expect a good return for these local vendors. Buy/Support Local, please,” she said.
Her supporters were receptive to her suggestion.
In a post on her Facebook fan page, Dy’s supporters said they have been following her example as their way to show their appreciation for the vendors exerting so much effort in selling their products under the scorching heat of the sun.
“I always do that. Mas bumibili ako sa mga naglalako. Grabe yung effort kasi nila, minsan yung mga vendor buhat buhat nila yung paninda nila tapos naglalakad lang, gaano kahirap yun diba? Support Local,” Donnalyn Abanilla said in a comment.
Other fans have also called to refrain from asking for discounts when buying from street vendors since they only earn a small amount from their products.
“Please sana ‘wag tayo mang-hingi ng discount dahil I know the fact na maliit na lang kinikita nila mas paliliitin pa kapag humingi ng tawad,” said Ryan Dela Cruz.
