‘May nakapanakit sa’yo?’: Jodi Sta. Maria talks about forgiveness, choosing battles

by Izel Abanilla

Unbreak My Heart star Jodi Sta. Maria turned to TikTok to share tips on internal healing and forgiving people who have hurt you.

The 41-year-old, who has over five million followers on the video-sharing platform, mentioned how people “live in a broken world filled with broken people.’’

In the video, Sta. Maria listed the things to do when someone has been hurt.

She said that one should first acknowledge that one has been hurt and that there is no need to pretend otherwise.

“Kapag may nakapanakit sa’yo, una mong gawin i-acknowledge mo na nasaktan ka. Hindi mo kailangan mag-pretend na okay lang ‘yung nangyari,’’ she said.

“Pangalawa, kung posible, sabihan mo ‘yung tao na nasaktan ka niya,” she added.

Sta. Maria advised viewers to try and forgive those who have hurt them, even when they are not asking for forgiveness. She explained that doing this is for one’s own peace.

“Contrary to what others think, na kapag pinatawad mo ibig sabihin na you’re letting that person off the hook, or miniminize yung pain na ginawa sa’yo or na-invalidate ‘yung na-experience mo, hindi ganun ‘yun,’’ she said.

Finally, she reminded everyone to “choose their battles” and evaluate if a situation needs one’s action or if it’s better to just let it pass.

“Tandaan: hindi natin kontrolado ang actions ng ibang tao. Pero kontrolado natin kung pa’no tayo mag-re-respond sa ating situation,” she explained as she ended the video by wishing everyone a nice day.

The video, which now has over 300,000 views, earned a positive response from netizens.

Agreeing with Sta. Maria’s views, @kai said “forgiveness is not always about freeing the other person, but about freeing yourself.”

@cynthia.0309 wrote “thank you Jody for this very nice advices. God bless you more.”
