AGE doesn’t matter, indeed.

Love has proven time and again that if it’s really true, no boundaries can get in between two people – not race, not gender, and certainly not age. 

As people embrace modern times, their mindset changes as well. 

May-December affairs, or amorous relationships between two parties involving a considerable age gap, used to be scoffed at or castigated. 

These are becoming more accepted nowadays, but it’s not always easy to make these work. 

Still, there are couples who have surpassed the additional challenges that come with this kind of relationship and have shown that they will fight for love against all odds. 

Let’s get to know some celebrities who are in successful May-December affairs. 

1. Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna 

Age gap: 34 years

When the romance of veteran comedian Vic Sotto and actress Pauleen Luna was announced to the public, many raised their eyebrows and doubted their love because of their three-decade age gap. 

Vic was already in his 60s and Pauleen was in her 20s when they got together. She was certainly even younger than his kids. 

There were even speculations that Pauleen was only after his money. Others claimed that Vic, having the reputation of being a ladies man, will soon tire of her and find someone new. 

Vic’s former wife, actress Dina Bonnevie also said in interviews that even their kids Danica and Oyo feared Pauleen might only fool their dad. But eventually, they all saw how genuine the young actress’ love for Vic was, which made them love and accept her. 

Vic and Pauleen married in a lavish wedding ceremony in Alabang on January 30, 2016. They have one daughter, Tali. 

2. Heart Evangelista and Chiz Escudero 

Age gap: 16 years 

It was all thanks to the matchmaking powers of the late Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago that actress and socialite Heart Evangelista crossed paths with lawmaker Chiz Escudero. 

Their love story was the quintessential against-all-odds tale because her parents did not approve of the Senator and among their objections was their 16-year age gap. At the time of their wedding, Heart had just then turned 30, while Chiz had just turned 46 years old. 

Their triumph over several odds was the reason people followed their story. 

Heart’s parents Reynaldo and Cecille Ongpauco argued that their daughter, despite entering her 30s at that time, was still fairly immature and still “thinks like a young girl” who was easily “manipulated into going against her family.”

In a past interview, her mother said they feared Chiz was “financially manipulating” her daughter. 

During the couple’s lavish Balesin wedding on February 15, 2015, Heart’s parents were a no-show.

But now, they have all reconciled and everything is going well between them. 

Heart even said that Chiz and her father have become so close that her dad regrets not fixing up things with him sooner.

3. Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia 

Age gap: 10 years 

Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia are yet another couple bombarded with online comments at the start of their relationship. 

It wasn’t exactly because of their age difference. People had blamed Coleen for the collapse of Billy’s relationship with former girlfriend Nikki Gil, who many thought would end up marrying the international singer. 

But the couple stayed strong despite the nasty rumors that plagued them. They eventually tied the knot in a lavish Balesin wedding on April 20, 2018 after more than three years of being boyfriend-girlfriend. 

Now they have a son named Amari who has been taking social media by storm. 

4. Aiai delas Alas and Gerald Sibayan 

Age gap: 30 years 

Another celebrity couple with a huge age gap is comedy queen Aiai Delas Alas and her husband Gerald Sibayan. 

She was then in her 50s and he was still in his 20s studying at the De La Salle University when they met. They eventually got in a relationship and got married. 

But marriage did not stop their haters from criticizing them. From time to time, when the actress posts photos of them together with their family, the bashers would attack.

But Aiai does not hold back and would answer people who would say something nad about their relationship and age difference. 

4. Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho 

Age gap: 25 years 

Doctors to the stars Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho are yet another couple who proved that really, age doesn’t matter in love. 

Just like most May-December affairs, many had also doubted the relationship of the two, especially given all the controversies they both faced in the past. 

But their love proved their detractors wrong. Now, they are a picture of a beautiful family and have an adorable daughter, Scarlet. .

Vicki also praises Hayden for rising up to the challenge of being the head of the family. 

5. Assunta de Rossi and Jules Ledesma 

Age gap: 22 years 

Back in 2002, 19-year-old Assunta de Rossi married the 41-year-old Jules Ledesma, a politician from a wealthy clan in Negro Occidental. 

Their union became controversial as Assunta was just a teenager when they got together, and she had a promising career and was predicted to hit it big in showbiz. 

People worried about their 22-year age gap. They also said marriage was a career killer for stars, especially if it happened too early in their lives. 

Separation rumors also hounded the couple in 2014, but the actress denied it. 

Now, they have one daughter, Fiore, who just turned two years old.
