by Athena Yap

IT’S finally out!

The music video of the collaboration between award-winning actress Lea Salonga and the popular American a cappella group Pentatonix, where they sang the classic Filipino Christmas song “Christmas in our hearts,” was released last Friday, December 16.

The video has a half million views as of writing, with fans gushing over its release. In fact, the music video has climbed to top 20 in the list of trending music videos on YouTube.

In October, the Broadway star announced that she will be having a collaboration with the  American a cappella group.

“Yes, folks! This is happening! Had the most wonderful time recording this classic Filipino Christmas song with @ptxofficial!” she wrote in an Instagram post

The song was featured as part of the latest Christmas album of Pentatonix, “Holidays around the world.” It was released in the last week of October.

This is the first time that the vocal quintet, which has won three Grammy awards and has been nominated for an Emmy nominee, collaborated  with different artists from around the world.

Apart from Lea Salonga, the other special guests in the group’s album are American superstar Meghan Trainor, Lebanese singer Hiba Tawaji, Latin band La Santa Cecilia, Indian vocalist Shreya Ghoshal, Japanese artists HIKAKIN & SEIKIN, Congolese gospel singer Grace Lokwa, British a cappella ensemble The King Singers, and Chinese pianist Lang Lang.

Pentatonix, or PTX, currently consists of 5 members – Matt Sallee, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Mitch Grassi.

The members are known for not using musical instruments in their songs and just blending their voices to create their unique sound.

The first time PTX rose to fame was in 2011 when they won the third season of NCB TV’s a cappella singing competition. They now have close to 20 million subscribers on YouTube.
