Gilas Pilipinas: Who is Kiefer Ravena

by Carl Santos

Kiefer Ravena has been a fixture on the men’s national team roster since donning the Gilas Pilipinas jersey in 2016, when he was 22 years old.

Now a senior member of the team, the 29-year-old point guard has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to carry out his duties when called upon.

During the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers, Ravena appeared in five games and posted averages of 7.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Ravena has accumulated many recognitions in his basketball career, including UAAP champion, UAAP Most Valuable Player, and five-time SEA Games champion.

He currently plays for the Japan B. League team Shiga Lakestars.

Together with his brother Thirdy, Ravena is grateful for the chance to represent his country.

”We will try to represent the country if we’re needed, and that’s not going to change,” he said in a video released by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

He also shared his excitement for the Philippines’ hosting of the international competition for the first time since 1978.

”I’m just cherishing the moment,” Ravena said.
