Things to know about Miss World PH 2024 coronation night

by Joanna Deala

IN A FEW days, a Filipina beauty queen will take her throne as the new Miss World Philippines.

The coronation night will be held on July 19, Friday, at the Mall of Asia Arena, where reigning Miss World Philippines Gwendolyne Fourniol is set to crown her successor.

The French-Filipina beauty queen made an early exit in the 71st edition of the Miss World pageant after she failed to advance to the Top 40.

A total of 35 beauty queens are competing in this year’s national pageant but only one will earn a ticket to the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant, one of the “Big 4” international beauty pageants.

Here’s what pageant fans and enthusiasts need to know about the upcoming Miss World Philippines finals night:

Two other crowns

The winner for the Miss World Philippines 2024 will vie for the country’s second Miss World title. It was Kapuso actress Megan Young who bagged the Philippines’ first crown in the pageant in 2013.

The candidates will also get the chance to be crowned Miss Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas and Miss Tourism Philippines.

Last year, Philippine bet Michelle Arceo was hailed second runner-up in the 32nd edition of the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant. It’s the country’s second-highest placement in the beauty competition since Teresita Marquez, who won the Philippines’ first Reina Hispanoamericana crown in 2017.

Hosts

The Miss World Philippines Organization announced last month that actor-singer Billy Crawford and Universal Woman 2024 Maria Gigante will host the pageant’s coronation night.

They will be joined by Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2021 Emmanuelle Vera and actor Teejay Marquez, who will serve as anchor hosts.

Guest performers

Adding to the star-studded lineup are guest performers who will hype and serenade the crowd.

One of them is the Pinoy pop-rock band The Juans, composed of Carl Guevarra, Japs Mendoza, Chael Adriano and RJ Cruz. The band is known for their songs “Hindi Tayo Pwede,” “Hatid,” at “pwede ba kitang ligawan?” Recently, they collaborated with P-pop boy group ALAMAT for the breakup anthem “Gupit.”

P-pop groups KAIA and BILIB will also give electrifying performances at the event.

KAIA—composed of Angela, Sophia, Charice, Charlotte and Alexa—made a comeback to the music scene with the release of their latest song “You Did It,” which they first performed in their second anniversary fan concert.

BILIB, on the other hand, also made a comeback with their latest song “Say Whatcha Wanna Say.” Debuting under AQ Prime Music in 2023, the boy group is composed of Yukito, Zio, JMAC, RC, Clyde, Carlo and Rafael.

The audience will be surely mesmerized by the performance of indie singer Johnoy Danao, known for his songs “Ikaw At Ako,” “Right Time,” and “Buntong-Hininga.”

Adding to the excitement for the coronation night is a performance from the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), one of the leading orchestras in the country.

Reigning Miss World appearance

The coronation night will be graced by reigning Miss World Krystyna Pyszková, who arrived in the Philippines on July 16, along with Miss World Organization head Julia Morley.

Pyszková bested 111 other candidates in the 71st Miss Universe tilt in Mumbai, India. She is the second Czech beauty queen to bring home the Miss World title, after Taťána Kuchařová who won the crown in 2006.

Whoever wins the 72nd edition of the Miss World competition will be her successor.
