Francine Diaz, Orange & Lemons address controversial Mindoro gig

by Joanna Deala

ACTRESS Francine Diaz and pop rock band Orange  & Lemons confirmed that they are now on good terms following their viral on-stage mishap at a local event.

It can be recalled that Diaz and the band were both guests for the “Governor and Vice Governor’s Night 2024” in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

In videos circulating online, it can be seen that Orange & Lemons was already preparing on the stage for their performance when Diaz suddenly appeared and greeted the audience.

This was when the band started talking with a few individuals at the back, which eventually prompted Orange & Lemons to walk out from the stage.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, Kylee Dioneda, a producer and organizer, said a “miscommunication” happened during the event.

“Unang-una po sa lahat, humihingi po ako ng pasensya sa mga nangyari,” said Dioneda. “Ito po talaga ay miscommunication lang po ng lahat, sa dami po ng nangyari that time sa event.”

The report stated that Diaz was supposed to perform after Orange & Lemons, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., but the event was delayed for two hours.

Diaz’s camp then asked organizers if the actress could go up on stage first since she only had one song to perform. The organizers agreed to the request, but Orange & Lemons was not informed of the changes, which resulted in the now-viral clips.

Dinner meeting

Following the mishap, Diaz, Clem Castro of Orange & Lemons, their managers, and the event organizers held a dinner meeting to discuss the on-stage clash.

Castro, who initiated the meeting, said he apologized for his actions and explained his side to the other parties involved.

“The show was two hours delayed. Ang bilis nung pangyayari, tapos medyo magulo na sa backstage. Things got out of hand and out of control,” said the vocalist.

“So I started the meeting, I apologized for my behavior and I explained my side and they explained their side. We found the root cause of the problem–it’s miscommunication,” he added.

Castro also explained that the reason why they weren’t issuing any official statement about the viral incident was because they “didn’t want to fuel the fire.”

“We do not want more assumptions, more judgment from the masses, from music supporters or fans. We don’t want to further give more confusion,” he said.

Diaz agreed with Castro that there was indeed a miscommunication and said that she wasn’t briefed on the program flow.

“Okay na po kami ni Sir Clem,” the actress emphasized. “Okay naman na po, nagkaayos naman na.”

Diaz said she also apologized to Castro and said that she “wasn’t thinking properly” and was not in her “right state of mind” when she appeared on the stage.

“I should’ve acknowledged them. Pero ‘yun nga po, because of intimidation, hindi ko po alam yung gagawin ko, so kinausap ko na lang po yung audience,” she explained.

She continued, “Kahit hindi ko po intention na mag-disrespect, ganun po yung nangyari, ganun yung naging kalabasan.”

Future collab

With the issue being settled, the audience may see Diaz and Orange & Lemons share the stage again, hopefully without any issues, as the two acts discussed the possibility of collaborating on a project.

“Sir Clem offered na parang kung meron akong gagawing songs in the future, pwede siyang magsulat for me. And kung meron akong sinusulat, pwede niyang mas ayusin pa ‘yon,” Diaz shared.

As a “peace offering,” the 20-year-old actress also invited Castro to the premiere date of her movie with actor Seth Fedelin.

The popular Gen Z love team, known as FranSeth, is set to star in their first-ever big-screen project “My Future You.” It will be directed by Crisanto B. Aquino and produced by Regal Films.
