Bretman, Bella, Patrick, among Forbes’ top 50 fashion creators

by Joanna Deala

THREE Filipino-American Internet sensations are among the top fashion creators in 2023.

Bretman Rock, Bella Poarch, and Patrick Starrr have each earned a spot on Forbes’ list of top 50 fashion creators who “shape the global tastes and trends across arts, style and luxury goods.”

The American business magazine partnered with creator marketing agency Influential in naming the top fashion creators, who have garnered a combined 1.1 billion followers on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms.

The fashion creators were ranked based on their total followers, average engagement, and entrepreneurship score. Forbes gave a one-to-four scale for the entrepreneur score, based on those who made most of their money from traditional advertising or their own brands and services.

Bretman was the top Fil-Am influencer in the list, landing on the seventh spot with 52 million followers and 3.40 percent average engagement. Forbes also gave Bretman an entrepreneurship score of two.

Forbes said that from creating funny Vine videos in 2014, Bretman “has gone on to reach new heights since branching beyond the ‘beauty guru’ moniker, becoming the first gay man to cover Vogue Philippines and Playboy, and working with Nike, Balmain, Valentino, Crocs, Amazon and Google.”

He has also published his first book “You’re That Bitch: And Other Lessons About Being Unapologetically Yourself” in February.

Patrick trailed Bretman on the list, placing 12th with 12 million followers and 1.40 percent average engagement. He got an entrepreneurship score of four.

The makeup artist established his cosmetics label One/Size in 2020, which now retails at Sephora. One notable product from Patrick’s cosmetic line is its setting spray that went viral as “Beyoncé’s spray” during her “Renaissance” tour.

“Since launching his YouTube channel in 2013, makeup artist Patrick Starrr has proven his influence in the beauty world,” Forbes said.

Bella landed on the 22nd spot, gaining 112 million followers, 0.65 percent average engagement, and an entrepreneurship score of three.

“The Filipina-American Navy veteran has evolved from TikTok fame to a pop music and fashion star,” the magazine said.

Bella released her first album titled “Dolls” in August 2022, which has six tracks namely “Build a Bitch,” “Dolls,” “Living Hell,” “No Man’s Land” featuring singer-songwriter Grimes, “Villain,” and “Inferno.” She also dropped a new single called “Crush” in September.

The TikTok star also partnered this year with luxury brands Miu Miu and Hugo Boss.

The three Filipino-American social media personalities were also among Forbes’ top creators for 2022.

Meanwhile, American social media personality Emma Chamberlain topped the fashion creators list for 2023, with 28 million followers and 6.25 percent average engagement. Forbes gave her an entrepreneurship score of four.
