BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Jennie gift BLINKS with song covers this Christmas

by Joanna Deala

CHRISTMAS became merrier for fans of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, collectively known as BLINKs, after two of its members gifted them with song covers.

Rapper Lisa serenaded the fans with her sweet rendition of “My Only Wish” by Princess of Pop Britney Spears.

Released on Christmas Day, the 3 1/2 minute cover featured Lisa exploring the streets of Paris, France, as she awaits the arrival of a special someone this holiday season.

“My Only Wish” expresses the singer’s desire of having a romantic partner this Christmas and asking Santa Claus to find her one.

On Instagram, Lisa wished her fans a merry Christmas as she shared her song cover.

“Christmas present for my BLINKS. Have a wonderful holiday,” she wrote in the caption.

The video has now garnered over three million views on YouTube, only a day after it was posted.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK member Rosé expressed support by sharing Lisa’s song cover on her Instagram story.

“New cover added to my playlist this Christmas,” she wrote.

She also greeted her co-member “Merry Christmas @lalalalisa_m.”

First released in 2000, “My Only Wish (This Year)” was one of the singles included in the holiday album “Platinum Christmas.” It was also part of the

Billboard staff’s list of “100 Best Christmas Songs of All Time,” landing on the 95th spot.

Jennie’s covers

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s rapper Jennie gave cozy Christmas vibes with her cover of two songs: “Snow” by South Korean R&B singer Zion.T and “Snowman” by Australian singer-songwriter Sia.

Jennie dropped her covers on December 23, with a three minute and 37-second video of her singing in a recording studio.

She first sang “Snow,” which expresses her longing for a special someone. First released in 2017, the sentimental song also featured the divine vocals of ballad singer Lee Moon Sae.

It was the same year Zion.T released his first album “OO” under The Black Label, a sub-label of YG Entertainment that currently manages BLACKPINK.

Jennie then transitioned to singing Sia’s “Snowman,” a heartfelt song that demonstrates the singer’s commitment to staying together for all seasons.

“Snowman” is part of Sia’s 13-track “Everyday Is Christmas” album, released in 2018.

 BLACKPINK updates

The four-member group–Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo–reportedly renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment, ending rumors about the quartet’s future after their contract expired in August.

On December 24, Jennie surprised BLINKs with an announcement that she will establish her own company named OA, which means “Odd Atelier.”

“Hi, this is Jennie. This year was filled with many accomplishments, and I’m so thankful for all the love I’ve received,” she said in her Instagram post.

“I’m also excited about what’s to come, as I start my solo journey in 2024 with a company that I have established called OA,” she added.

The rapper encouraged BLINKs to continue showing “lots of love” for her new endeavor, and also for BLACKPINK.

The global phenomenon girl group is expected to release its “BLACKPINK: A VR Encore” today, December 26, which will take their fans to a virtual-reality experience of their “BORN PINK” finale concert.
