Why 2023 is not for unsupportive friends and relatives

IT’S time to close that chapter.

2022 witnessed how the world adapted to the living conditions brought by the pandemic. Not only that, the year 2022 also allowed some people to know who are the real ones – as a friend and even family.

You shouldn’t beat yourself up if your friends and family don’t support you in pursuing the goals you’ve set for yourself. It does not mean that the accomplishment of your dreams is not valuable simply because you do not have the support of others.

There are situations when family and friends do not lend a hand simply because they do not comprehend your situation. People have a variety of perspectives on monetary matters, romantic relationships, and aspects of life in general. It is unsurprising that you may not have the support you need if what you are doing is out of the ordinary.

However, if they are crossing the line and taking a toll on your mental health, it’s time to leave them behind.

The New Year marks the beginning of another chapter, a perfect time to renew your energy and choose an environment that won’t drain *that* energy. But why is 2023 not for them?

Jealousy is too antiquated

As Millennials and Gen Zs rule the world in the next few years, people in these age brackets tend to outgrow issues and habits surrounding friendships and family, particularly jealousy.

Jealousy causes a person to feel insecure about themselves. If someone is envious of their friend, they may begin to view their friend as pretentious or superior because of their envy. If jealousy prevails in a relationship, it won’t make their bond work.

Jealous friends in 2023, seriously? That’s too backward-looking.

Support matters

Friends and relatives are there to help you celebrate the good times and to support you through the difficult times. They prevent feelings of isolation and loneliness and provide you the opportunity to have companionship. Your circle of friends has the potential to bolster your sense of identity and purpose.

That said, people who don’t empower you to achieve your goals are not worthy of becoming part of your circle. Don’t waste your energy on people who are unhappy to see you prosper.

2023 is the year for self-development and progress, so make sure you spend it with the right people.

Keep in mind that life is fleeting and it will be much simpler for you to adhere to your own principles even when other people disagree with the decisions you make or try to bring you down.

Cherish your circle. Keep it small – but real.
