F2 Logistics Cargo Movers showed their never-say-die spirit as they gave the Creamline Cool Smashers their first loss in Premier Volleyball League All Filipino Conference elims at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, February 18.
This is the first match between the two powerhouse teams in PVL, and they gave their fans a thriller of a finish, 23-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 16-14.
Cool Smashers brought the dominant performance throughout the game. But Cargo Movers’ towering walls — Kianna Dy and Aby Marano — spoiled the offense attacks from Ced Domingo and Tots Carlos.
In the last sequence of the final set, the Cargo Movers made a 4-0 run after trailing 12-14 against the Cool Smashers. Ivy Keith Lacsina’s service looked wide but landed just inside the Cool Smashers’ Zone 1.
The F2 bench and their fans in the audience went wild.
The game had all the trimmings of a championship, a worthy Saturday night to cap for the 6,700 fans inside the Philsports Arena.
Myla Pablo led the Cargo Movers and scored 27 points with 22 attacks and five blocks. Play-by-play commentators called her “Myla Typhoon Pablo,” after the super typhoon in 2012. She was a cyclone that unleashed the momentum for the F2 Logistics even though her team was down 2-1 set.
Carlos led Creamline with 21 points, while Jema Galanza with 18 hits. Michele Gumabao and Pangs Panaga each fired 14 points. But their smashes could not sustain a win after back-to-back attack errors in the fifth set.
Meanwhile, Cool Smashers still tops the league despite the close game loss against their rival team.
