Vilma Santos tears up defending son Luis over estafa claims

by Izel Abanilla

STAR for All Season Vilma Santos was unable to hold back tears when she came to the defense of her son, actor and TV host Luis Manzano, who has been linked to a fuel investment scam allegation.

For the first time, the premiere actress opened up about her feelings over the challenges her son has been facing.

“Minsan, it’s your job to do good, ro show people that you’re comfortable, pero deep inside, you’re hurting,” she said in an interview with talk show host Boy Abunda.

A mother’s love

As a mother, she said she can attest to her son’s character. She also warned his critics against tarnishing his name.

“The only thing I can say is that I know my son. Ang anak ko tumutulong, hindi nanloloko. Kaya ‘yung mga nagsasalita at naghuhusga sa kanya, dahan-dahan lang kayo. Walang ibang nakakakilala sa anak ko kundi ako and I know he’s such a good person,” she said.

She has tried to avoid the issue because going through something like this is not easy, she revealed.

She is praying for guidance for her son.

She also reminded Manzano that the truth shall prevail in the end.

What the controversy is all about

The love month hasn’t exactly been rosy for Manzano, as 30 investors filed a large-scale estafa case against him and several other personalities behind the Flex Fuel Petroleum Corporation.

The complainants alleged that they had been scammed as they did not receive anything in return for their investments

They identified Manzano as the chairperson of Flex Fuel and said he introduced himself as such during Zoom meetings with them.

Manzano, however, denied that he was involved with Flex Fuel. He said he, too, lost his P66 million investment in the company.

He also said he had agreed to become the chairman of the board as one of the guarantees for his investment.

According to him, he has sought the help of the NBI to investigate the people behind Flex Fuel after some investors asked him for help.

The NBI had subpoenaed Manzano in connection with the large-scale estafa complaint, but he failed to show up at the agency.
