Filipino-American singer-actress who rose to fame via the global hit “High School Musical” Vanessa Hudgens is heading to the Philippines to film a travel documentary set to explore her mother’s roots.
“I feel like ours is such a relatable story to so many women all over the world,” Hudgens said in a statement.
“The more that we can share, the more we can lift each other up,” she added.

Filmmaker Paul Soriano is set to direct and produce the documentary. Mark A. Victor of TEN17P will also serve as executive producer. So far, no distributor, broadcaster or streaming platform has yet been disclosed.
According to Variety, the project will be shot Palawan and Manila in March. It will showcase the actress’ relationship with her mother Gina Guangco who emigrated to the U.S at 25 as well as her sister Stella.
In 2021, Hudgens said she hopes to turn her’s mother’s story into a movie.
“My mom is from the Philippines, and growing up, there weren’t really that many women who looked like me and my mom and my family on screen. It’s so important to share all the different stories because America is a massive melting pot, [just like the] world,” the actress said in an interview with Glamour UK.
