VISAYAS, Mindanao, and large parts of Luzon will see increasing cloudiness today, February 8, as the seasonal monsoon winds return.
State weather bureau Pagasa forecasted that the country will generally have fair weather today.
But don’t take out that umbrella in your bag just yet.
There is also a chance of rain in most parts of the country.
Obet Badrina, a Pagasa weather specialist, said winds brought by the Northeast Monsoon have become stronger.
The return of the cold front winds would lower the temperature today and in the next coming days.
Hopefully, it will come as a respite for residents of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. The Occidental Mindoro town experienced a high of 36°C yesterday, the highest temperature recorded for the year.
Rains in northern and eastern Luzon
Pagasa said moderate rains may dump across the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, and some parts of Quezon.
Cloudy skies with light rains during the entire day in Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon.
Metro Manila, Rizal Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, and Batangas may also get light showers in the afternoon.
Palawan, including Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro, will also have cloudy skies but may also get light showers.
The Northeast Monsoon is now the prevailing weather system in Luzon.
The temperature will stay steady at around 23-30°C, except in Baguio City and Tanay, Rizal. Baguio had a low of 16.4°C yesterday and may be lower at 15°C today. Tagaytay City may drop to 20°C today.
Rainfall advisories in Cagayan
Badrina advised the public and the local disaster authorities to continue monitoring Pagasa’s weather forecast. They would trigger rainfall advisories now and then.
As early as 2 am, Pagasa’s Aparri Radar has monitored moderate to occasionally heavy rains in Gattaran and Lallo towns in Cagayan.
Around 5 am today, another rainfall advisory was issued. Moderate to occasionally heavy rains fell on Baggao, Cagayan.
In some parts of Cagayan and Divilacan, Isabela also got light to moderate precipitation.
Thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao
Pagasa monitored clusters of rain clouds in the Visayas and Mindanao.
These may bring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms over the two main island groups.
Mindanao may still be hotter than Luzon.
Mercury in Zamboanga City may reach up to 33°C. Davao City may also be quite humid in the afternoon at 32°C.
Weather Outlook
The Northeast Monsoon winds moved through overnight, bringing colder weather in Luzon and possibly more rain in the coming days.
Legazpi City and other nearby areas may be rainy tomorrow.
The Northeast Monsoon winds may reach the Visayas by tomorrow. So, Metro Cebu will get cloudy with a bit of rain. On Saturday, the region may get more rains, coupled with thunderstorms.
There is also a high chance of moderate rains with thunderstorms in Metro Davao tomorrow until Friday.
