SURVIVAL video game Sons of the Forest was released earlier than expected, and it seems that gaming enthusiasts have wanted to get their hands on the game as it has placed third among the most downloaded games on Steam during the first day of its release.
Newnight published this simulation game developed by Endnight Games Ltd as an early access game on Thursday, February 23.
Surprised by the sudden release, gamers worldwide flocked to video game digital distribution service Steam to purchase and download Sons of the Forest, which caused the gaming service to crash, according to reports.
With over 265,000 concurrent users, Sons of the Forest has placed among the top three most played games on Steam, charting along with the multiplayer shooting game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) and multiplayer online battle arena video game Dota 2.
It has also surpassed another anticipated video game, Hogwarts Legacy, which was previously blocking the third spot before the release of Sons of the Forest.
The game, a sequel to the first-person survival game The Forest, was supposed to be released as a complete game sometime in 2023.
The developers believe the game’s current version is the best they have. However, it seems that Sons of the Forest would need help by collecting players’ feedback for its further development.
“We set out to make the ultimate survival horror simulator, and feel it is now at a stage where it needs player feedback and involvement to help push this even further,” Endnight Games Ltd wrote. “Having players involved at this stage will make this game even better.”
Sons of the Forest is playable in both single-player and multiplayer, catering to up to 8 players in the gameplay.

Like its predecessor, the game is centered on players surviving a remote island with a mission to find a missing billionaire. To spice up the gameplay, developers include encounters with half-naked cannibals in the area that will hinder players from accomplishing their in-game objectives.

“There are caves to explore, a story to uncover, a brand-new building system, crafting system, a new arsenal of weapons, dynamic weather and seasons, terrifying enemies and lots more,” the developer said.

NPCs, or non-playable characters, can also be found in the cannibal-infested hellscape that will give players side quests and missions.
Sons of the Forest is now available for purchase at Steam for P910. It contains intense violence, blood, gore, horror themes, and occasional nudity that may not be suitable for young audiences.
