THE Philippines has selected “Pushcart Tales,” a 2024 dramedy helmed by Sigrid Bernardo, as its official entry to the 2025 edition of the Pattaya Film Festival in Thailand.

Set to run from August 28 to 30, the Pattaya Film Festival aims to bring diverse films to a wider audience and promote Pattaya as a location for film shooting. The festival’s inaugural edition was held in June 2023, featuring 20 film titles from across the globe.

In a press statement, Bernardo said she was “truly honored and grateful” that her film was chosen to represent the country at the international film festival.

“I look forward to sharing our story with a wider audience and connecting with other filmmakers and film lovers,” the filmmaker said.

“It’s wonderful to know that ‘Pushcart Tales’ can inspire and touch the hearts of people from different backgrounds,” she added.

Bernardo also shared the good news on Instagram, congratulating the cast and crew of “Pushcart Tales.”

“Pushcart Tales” follows six individuals who were trapped inside a grocery store amid a powerful storm, triggering flooding that submerged homes.

It features Nonie Buencamino, Shamaine Buencamino, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Harvey Bautista, Therese Malvar, and Elora Españo as grocery store employees and customers who are each coping with personal issues.

Accolades

“Pushcart Tales” was part of the inaugural CinePanalo Film Festival in 2024, where it earned six major awards, including Best Director for Bernardo, Best Actor for Siguion-Reyna, Best Actress for Shamaine, Best Sound Design, Best Ensemble, and the Special Jury Prize.

In July, the 2024 dramedy earned two nominations at the 8th edition of the Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards (EDDYs), including Best Editing and Best Actress for Shamaine.

“Pushcart Tales” also had its international premiere and competed at the Fantasporto International Film Festival 2025 in Portugal.

Bernardo is one of the accomplished Filipino filmmakers, known for directing the highest-grossing Philippine independent film, “Kita-Kita.” She also helmed the 2024 romantic drama film “Under Parallel Skies,” starring Filipino actress Janella Salvador and Thai actor Win Metawin.
