Shaira Diaz: Open relationship is not for me

by Izel Abanilla

Will you go open to save a relationship?

Open relationship includes any type of romantic interlude wherein both partners agree that each may have sexual relations with others.

While some have saved a relationship by going open, actress Shaira Diaz declared it’s simply not for her.

Diaz shared this during the premiere night of  “Without You” where she and David Licauco are the lead actors.

The movie revolves around couples resorting to an open setup weirdly to save their crumbling relationship.

No, isa lang para sa’kin, kung may mamahalin ako dapat isa lang,” she told republicasia during the jam packed premiere night of “Without You” at SM Megamall Monday (February 13).

“Without You” plot

In the movie, Axel [Licauco] and Ria [Diaz] experienced problems that beset normal couples who have been together for long. Axel repeatedly cheats on Ria, prompting the latter to suggest an open setup so they can freely satisfy their urges on other people so long that they still come home to each other.

This setup is unacceptable to many because it is seen as permitted cheating. However, to others, open relationships surprisingly work.

Shaira’s view on open relationships

When asked if she is open to giving chances to someone who cheats on her, she replied, “Depende sa bigat.”

Like most people at odds with the open-relationship setup, Diaz also sees that “at the end of the day parang thrill lang siya.”

“Hindi mo mahahanap, dun sa mga excitement na ‘yun [kung may minamahal ka talaga] dapat hindi mo siya hanapin sa iba eh. So para sa’kin masarap na i-enjoy mo ‘yung mga ganong bagay kasama yung taong mahal mo,” she said.

The 27-year old actress has been in a long-time relationship with boyfriend, fellow Kapuso actor EA Guzman.

A witness to open-relationship

But she, too, was a witness to an open relationship success story.

“Meron akong kakilala yes pero ewan ko somehow nag work sa kanila, siguro ‘yun ‘yung way nila [to save it], pero ngayon sobrang happy na nila. Pinagdaanan nila ‘yun pero ngayon super happy na nila so I guess sa iba it works, pero sa’kin ayoko sana,” she ended.

Produced by OctoArts Films, “Without You” opens in theaters starting February 15.
