DJs, dancing, and denim galore — these are the things that marked Beverly Moon Studio’s private launch of its new capsule collection, “Rework Vol. 2.”
The sequel to “Rework Vol. 1” released the previous year, designer Astrid’s new collection finds its roots in music. Aside from being an ode to the environment and sustainability, Astrid said her newest collection is inspired by metal, rock, and alternative music as a result of her returning to her roots.
“Those were my influences before,” she explained.
“So I just dug up a lot of tracks that I listened to. That’s my inspiration for this collection; it’s a little bit grungy,” she added.
The designer
Starting as just a college project, Beverly Moon Studio has since turned into a notable name in the local clothing scene, branding itself as fashion meant for everyone.
“It’s something everyone can relate to. It’s for the culture,” said Astrid.
“Culture” is a great way to explain why Astrid designs clothes the way she does.
“We celebrate art, we celebrate the culture, we celebrate music, we celebrate everyone trying to make it in the industry,” she told republicasia with a smile.
The collection
When asked to describe Beverly Moon Studio in three words, Astrid said: “Exciting, future, sustainable.”
And that could be seen in the pieces displayed during the collection’s launch. Rows filled with denim, patchwork pieces, and contrast stitched clothes could be seen in practically every corner of the room.
The denim patchwork pieces give off punk Vivienne Westwood vibes and are akin to the clothing rockers wore back in the day.
Astrid said that many of the pieces were denim because of how relatable and comfortable the fabric was for everyone.
“Everyone can relate to denim, everyone’s comfortable in denim,” she said. “It’s a staple. So I like to turn staple pieces into art.”
Butta B, a DJ who performed at the event, said that Astrid uses scrap materials to make Beverly Moon’s products, which is something she loves about the brand.
Beverly Moon also reworks many of its items to turn old pieces into something new, as seen in some of the listings on its website.
The launch of the collection came with an editorial video, which Mong Feliciano, the Director of Photography, said was inspired by the interconnection of punk and streetwear.
“I think for the Philippine narrative, that hasn’t been discussed or shown,” he said.
Len, the Director of the editorial, added that they wanted to use foreign-looking models for the video to give the Philippine-made streetwear an international feel.

The feedback
The collection didn’t disappoint the attendees of the launch.
“The design is not common,” said Len, who admired how the collection showed creative freedom.
Meanwhile, Feliciano liked the use of contrasting stitches in many of the pieces released, saying that it was the first thing he noticed upon first seeing the whole collection.
“The way Beverly Moon understood the blend of denim and the mix of materials, that just made sense for me,” he said.
Stylist and Nylon Manila fashion editor Lyn Alumno also had good things to say about the collection.
“For me especially, I’m very big on sustainability. Everything I put out in my work, I always incorporate that. So I’m really happy to see everyone growing in the community, too,” Alumno said.
The future
Alumno hopes to see more sustainability from Beverly Moon, and more consistency in its messaging and how its pieces are produced.
“I want to see more of that ‘cause, for the design aspect, everything’s going smoothly. So I’m very excited to see what else they have in store,” she said.
Feliciano, on the other hand, hopes for Astrid to have more freedom to do what she wants.
“Most of the selections [in fashion] are always shirts, so this is kind of refreshing in terms of the fashion world, that they’re interconnecting streetwear, fashion, and design,” he said.
Astrid shared that she has plenty of upcoming shows and collaborations in the coming year, so be sure to stay updated on Beverly Moon Studio’s collections to come.
