Muslim Filipinos will begin observing Ramadan, one of Islam’s holiest months, on Thursday, March 23.
The date was announced by Bangsamoro Jurist and Deputy Mufti Abdulrauf Guialani on Tuesday, March 21, after receiving reports from regional moon-sighting committees across the region.

“They have performed what they were assigned to do, and then finally, the result of the moonsighting is that the moon-crescent has not been sighted,” Guialani said in a statement released by the Bangsamoro government.
Muslims around the world observe Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, through fasting, prayer, self-discipline, and acts of charity.
