Business establishments in Quezon City have been urged to designate all-gender restrooms as the local government unit continues to promote inclusivity in its programs and policies.
Ma. Margarita Santos, head of the Quezon City LGU’s Business Permits and Licensing Department, made the appeal in an advisory issued on July 13, 2023.
Santos cited the Quezon City Gender-Fair Ordinance, which promotes the establishment of all-gender restrooms in offices and commercial establishments in support of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
”It is a declared policy of Quezon City to actively work for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and to protect and enhance the rights of all people,” the advisory stated.
”Quezon City has and will always be a gender-fair city where the LGBTQIA+ community is treated with equality and respect,” it added.
Last month, the Quezon City government launched the Right to Care Card, which will recognize the decision of the cardholders to agree, refuse, or withdraw consent for any type of medical care for their partners, including treatment, procedures, tests, and prescriptions.
The Right to Care Card has a QR code that will direct the user to the notarized digital version of the Special Power of Attorney (SPA) document, which contains the privileges authorized by the cardholders for their respective partners.
