The World Health Organization declared on Friday that COVID-19 no longer constitutes a global health emergency, although the threat remains.
“This virus is here to stay. It is still killing, and it’s still changing,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
The DOH welcomed the development, saying it was “an acknowledgment of our effective and collaborative COVID-19 response and concerted efforts to fully recover and re-open our economy.”
The agency said it would convene the members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to discuss and reassess policies and other guidelines affected by the declaration.
“The DOH guarantees the Filipino people that all factors in determining our next action in line with the WHO’s proclamation will be considered and discussed for the approval of the President,” it said.
