PAROKYA ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee returned to the stage a month after being discharged from the hospital due complications from lymphoma.
Frontman Chito Miranda took to Facebook to inform the band’s fans that Chee Kee was able to join Parokya’s gig and jam to its classics Your Song and Halaga.
“Nag-jam si Gab kagabi sa Your Song at sa Halaga (don’t worry, nagpaalam sya sa doctor nya, at may kasama syang nurse buong time),” Miranda said.
But he also said that while it was a delight to see Chee Kee back on stage, he was worried about his friend’s condition and prefers that he takes things slowly. Still, the experience of seeing Chee Kee perform again was something else.
“As a friend, I was honestly worried, and wanted him to rest, and to simply enjoy the show from the sidelines. As a bandmate, it was an overwhelming experience. Sobrang saya lang ng feeling na naka-jam si Gab ulit…nakakakilabot,” he said.

He thanked all the fans and supporters of the band who pulled off a series of fund-raising concerts to support Chee Kee’s hospitalization.
“Sabi ko nga, kung hindi nyo kami tinulungan, wala na siguro si Gab ngayon…pero now, he’s slowly getting his strength back, and is on his way to making a full recovery,” he said.
This performance was Chee Kee’s first public appearance after being hospitalized and staying in the intensive care unit due to lymphoma and pneumonia complications.
Musicians join forces
As news of Chee Kee’s hospitalization came out, several colleagues in the music industry came together to stage performances and gigs where part of the proceeds went to Chee Kee for his treatment.
One of them was singer-songwriter Ebe Dancel, who donated part of the earnings of his Sa Wakas concert to Chee Kee, who he describes as one of his best friends.
Apart from gigs, there were also auctions of prized items from OPM legends.
These were a signed guitar from the Eraserheads, which was sold for P1.3 million, and a shirt that the late Master Rapper Francis M wore in the Bagsakan music video, which went for P620,000.
