UP and coming Gen Z OPM artist Pappel is set to drop her EP this year, and it will feature songs about love.
Pappel is one of the most promising artists under Kean Cipriano’s O/C Records. At only 19 years old, she has been making waves in the OPM scene.
She currently has more than 15,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Her song Mundo (Brain Coat Mix), has more than 395,000 streams.
Who’s Pappel?
Her real name is Ashley Mikaela Factor. Many would surely wonder how she became “Pappel.”
According to Factor, she chose the name Pappel because she never really wanted to reveal her true identity when she first started making music. She did not want her mother, who is computer and internet savvy, to be able to easily find her online.
She first thought of covering her face with a paper bag when she joined the scene, but was worried that she might suffocate. And since the first thing she thought of was a paper bag, she just translated it to Filipino and put in a little twist by adding another “p” in the name.
EP
Her EP containing six tracks will be dropping in the coming months, although she has already released a few tracks off of it.
EP or Extended Play is a set of songs shorter than an album.
Pappel’s songs will focus on matters of the heart.
“‘Yung EP po, iikot po siya sa theme ng love, sa journey ng isang tao na, naka experience ng isang love,” she told republicasia.
Among the songs she has released from her forthcoming EP is the hit Wow I Finally Learned to Write a Love Song. It is basically a girl’s love letter to her future husband.

Songwriting and dream collaboration
Pappel has been writing for several years,although she only took it seriously in 2017.
At first, her songs were merely parodies. But when she realized her love for the craft, she began exploring her talent in making serious music.
As of now, she dreams of collaborating with fellow O/C Records talent Frizzle Anne whom she admires.
