Singer-songwriter Martin Riggs says he can write songs in an instant.
“Give me a word right now, I’ll write you a song,” he told republicasia in an interview.
“I write songs for myself and I write songs for other artists too… I write songs for anyone and I also write songs on the spot,” he added.
Riggs started his singing career by busking. Years after taking his songs to the streets, fellow artists discovered his potential and tapped him to form The Busking Community PH.
His talent eventually landed him on the doorsteps of O/C Records owned by Kean Cipriano. Riggs said he also writes songs for Cipriano and other Viva Artitsts.

Songwriting process
Before writing songs for people, the first thing Riggs wants to know is their story.
“Kung ano man po ‘yung kwento niya, susuklian ko po ‘yun ng kanta. Kung ano man po ‘yung maisulat ko dun kung papaano po kami nag-connect musically or kung papaano po ako nakkarelate dun sa kwento niya, I’ll return it with a song and it happens on the spot,” he said.
“Kung ano po ‘yung nararamdaman ko during the moment, ‘yun po ‘yung i-ta-try kong i-portray in the form of music,” he added.
Once he finds out what the story is about, the next question Riggs will ask is:“Gaano kabilis gusto mo nasa’yo na ‘yung kanta?”
Once these questions are answered, Riggs would strum his guitar, figure out the chords, and sing on the spot.
Journey to music
His journey to music began by writing a poem when he was 3. He furthered honed his skills thorugh extra curricular activities in highschool.
Now a professional songwriter, Riggs had already produced tracks that were a hit on digital streaming apps.
Among his favorite singles were “P Z Z L S” and “Damaso.”
