A NEW queen has landed.
More than a week after the reality show Drag Den Philippines named NAIA Black as the first ever drag supreme of the Philippines, netizens are still feeling the high from drag’s arrival in the country.
For drag show fan Jim Gabriel, 24, the season finale of Drag Den PH excites him about what’s ahead for drag in the country.
“After Drag Race Philippines and Drag Den PH, I am looking forward to more drag shows in the country because it helps the LGBT Community express themselves and the protest that comes after the art of their performance,” said Gabriel.
He also said that he’s grateful that his fellow LGBTQ members are being heard and that people are patronizing the show not only for entertainment, but to root for the talents they have.
But the end of Drag Den, according to Gabriel, is also a cause for concern for the drag community: “no show, no platform to tell stories.”
Still can’t get over the season finale of Drag Den Philippines? Here are some films you can watch on Netflix (aside from the famous RuPaul’s Drag Race) that can amplify the stories of the drag community:
AJ and the Queen
Ruby Red, a drag queen who is struggling and traveling America to jump from club to club, befriends an odd companion named AJ, an 11-year-old orphan. Ruby Red was a famous drag performer from Manhattan who encountered more difficulties than she anticipated when she announced that she was leaving the to create her own drag club.
Dancing Queen
This is a docu-series that follows Justin Johnson, also known as drag superstar Alyssa Edwards, as he balances his dancing, drag, family, and love lives. It also narrates her life as a teacher transforming other drag queens into the woman they are at night.
Super Drags
The animated miniseries, produced by Combo Estudio, chronicles the exploits of Donizete, Patrick, and Ralph, three pals who work in a department store and are also drag queen superheroes. The Super Drags are in charge of defending and advocating for the LGBT community, and they must deal with the homophobic evil under Lady Elza.
The death and life of Marsha P. Johnson
This investigative documentary narrates the story of the Stonewall uprising icon who was found lifeless in the Hudson River. Although her death was initially deemed a suicide, many in the town feel she was murdered.
Get your popcorn ready and let the drag binge-watching begin.
