FOR this year’s mother’s day celebration, American comic book publisher Marvel Comics paid tribute to five mothers from the Marvel universe who possess not just superpowers, but an intense love for their children.
These Marvel moms, just like the real-life mothers we have, showed off their incredible capabilities to fight off villains and save their loved ones from trouble.
Hug your mamas and celebrate motherhood with these five amazing superhero moms from various Marvel comics!

Scarlet Witch
One of the most heart-wrenching moments in the House of M (2005) comics would be the time when Scarlet Witch, or Wanda Maximoff, was cursed by her own mystical mentor Agatha Harkness to forget her children, Thomas and William.
But all Wanda wanted was to be reunited with her boys. And she would willingly do anything to achieve this, even if it would mean blowing up the world and annihilating 92 percent of mutants.
Later on, she would be reconnected with her children, who had been reborn into different families, during the Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #6 (2010).

The Original Spider-Woman
What would you be willing to do to keep your child safe and sound? For Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman, that would be blasting off every Skrull rebel right after delivering her son via C-section.
In the Spider-Woman #4 (2014), Jessica was having contractions and was in space when an army of the villainous race of imperialistic aliens attacked the Alpha Flight Intergalactic Hospital.
When Gerry was finally out of her womb, she instructed the doctor to close her up and immediately geared up for battle.

The Knightress
Jessica Jones, also known by many aliases including Jewel, Mrs. Cage, and the Knightress, proves that maternity isn’t something that strips off one’s superpowers — motherhood is something that made her stronger than she ever was before.
Although she was through with superhero gigs, Jessica tried it one more time, teaming up with her partner Luke Cage and Iron Fist (a.k.a. Danny Rand) to take in the villain’s children so they wouldn’t spend the night at the police station.
Jessica is proof of the phrase: once a hero, always a hero.

Mystique
Raven Darkholme, or Mystique, is definitely not the picture of an ideal mother, even in the Marvel universe. But she’s undoubtedly good at shapeshifting, and she used her power to transform herself into a one-woman army to save kidnapped mutant children from a secret Cuban military base in Mystique #5 (2003).
Although she first appeared as a major antagonist to the X-Men, this mutant shapeshifter still possesses what it takes to be a superhero — a kind heart.

Spinneret
Although Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man’s love interest who later became his wife, did not have superpowers, it did not hinder her from protecting her daughter in her own way.
During the first issue of Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows (2015), Venom attacked her and Peter Parker’s apartment, endangering her and her daughter Anna-May. With zero superpowers but 100 percent resourcefulness, she activated a fire truck’s siren to stun the villain, giving Spider-Man the opportunity to attack him while defenseless.
Later on, she became Spinneret and worked alongside her husband and daughter to fight off evil forces.
