Private sector employees in the National Capital Region (NCR) will receive an increase of P40 in their minimum wage, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Thursday night.
This means the daily minimum wage in the region will rise from P570 to P610 for the non-agriculture sector and from P533 to P573 for the agriculture sector, service and retail establishments employing 15 or fewer workers, and manufacturing establishments regularly employing less than 10 workers.
Approved by the Regional Wages and Productivity Board-NCR, the new minimum wage rates will take effect after 15 days from publication, or on July 16, 2023.
”The increase, which considered the various wage determination criteria provided under Republic Act No. 6727 or the Wage Rationalization Act, resulted from several petitions filed by various labor groups seeking an increase in the daily minimum wage due to escalating prices of basic goods and commodities,” the DOLE said.
According to the department, the wage order is set to directly benefit 1.1 million minimum wage earners in the NCR, and around 1.5 million full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also indirectly benefit as a result of upward adjustments at the enterprise level arising from the correction of wage distortion.
