SINGER Michael Pangilinan earned the ire of netizens following his performance at the De La Salle University- Dasmariñas, where his banter with members of the audience included telling them, “pwede na tayo gumawa ng baby [We can make a baby now].”
Last March 14, the singer, along with the CTHM Sparks All-Star, bands Kiss N Tell, The Vowels They Orbit, Better Days, December Avenue and Imago, were invited to perform at the “CTHM Sparks Fest: Re-Ignite the Fire” event in DLSU-Dasmariñas.
As with most concerts, the performers hyped up the crowd. But for some, Pangilinan went a little too far.
A Twitter user called out Pangilinan’s words and gestures at the concert and detailed her points on her account. She reposted a video that showed the singer calling out to the audience and asking for girls “18 years old pataas para pwede na tayo gumawa ng baby.”
Negative reactions
While Pangilinan appeared to be cracking a joke, his remark did not sit well with many and elicited negative reactions online.
Several netizens said this showed utter disrespect to women in the audience, some of whom were even accompanied by their families.
The Twitter user also questioned the singer’s gesture of letting a female student sit on his lap while he was performing.
republicasia reached out to Pangilinan’s management for comment, but has yet to receive a response as of posting.
DLSU-Dasmariñas issues statement
Days after the incident, DLSU-Dasmariñas issued a statement calling on guests and friends in the university to observe “prudence, tact, and caution” when sharing their views and opinions within campus.
This came after “unlikely statements were reported to have been made before Lasallian students and their invited family members,” it said.

“As a Lasallian institution, we regret that these statements offended the sensibilities of some members of our community,” it said.
But it did not elaborate on the “unlikely” statements and did not mention anybody by name.
DLSU-Dasmariñas posted the statement on Facebook, but a couple of Facebook users called it out for being vague and lacking context.
“The person that made unlikely statements AND actions in front of everyone and it is not even a simple matter. Please address the issue at hand with a more specific statement po, because this is vague po,” one Facebook user said.
Another asked why there was no context and why the person who supposedly made the “unlikely” remarks was not called out.
